Reno among 'best performing cities'

Reno moved up five spots to No. 21 in the Milken Institute's annual ranking of "Best Performing Cities," city officials announced Friday.

For 2005, Reno again was on the largest cities list, moving from No. 26 the prior year, according to a press release from the city.

The rankings measure cities with rapid job growth, a healthy mix of industries, a robust tourism industry and economic profitability.

The Milken Institute's Best Performing Cities Index measures which metropolitan areas of the U.S. are the most successful at job creation and exhibit the best economic performance.

It measures: jobs being created and maintained; wages and salaries increasing; economies are growing and businesses are thriving.

The 2005 index applies the same methodology used in previous indexes, including the rankings published with Forbes magazine in its annual "Best Places for Business" edition.
