NCED gives business incentives

The Nevada Commission on Economic Development awarded more than $150,000 in incentives to four companies at its monthly meeting Wednesday that will bring a combined 270 jobs to Northern Nevada. Once company is moving to Nevada and three businesses are expanding their operations.

Rivers End Trading Co., a clothing distributor headquartered in Hopkins, Minn., is moving its distribution center from Anaheim, Calif., to Storey County, according to NCED. The new facility is 54 percent larger for more inventory and will improve ground shipping to Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Phoenix, as well as cities in California and the Northwest.

Boston-based Charles River Laboratories, provider of research models and laboratory animal support services, is adding 153,000 square fet and about 245 jobs to its Sparks location.

A mining joint venture in Winnemucca and a Carson City-based vitamin maker also received NCED incentives for their expansions.

Turquoise Ridge Joint Venture is a partnershp between Placer Dome Inc. and Newmont Mining Corp. to open the Miner Training Academy. The academy will train people from the local labor force for mining careers.

Vitamin Research Products, which is expanding, started in 1979 in Carson City, makes nutritional supplements and maintains an Internet health archive.
