Poly One property sold

The former plastics manufacturing Poly One plant in Wabuska will return to life as AES Curb, which makes roof curbing for HVAC systems.

Roof curbing is the platform that supports and elevates the HVAC system on top of the roof.

The purchase of the plant, which stopped operation two-and-a-half years ago, was announced at the Jan. 9 Yerington City Council meeting.

Larie Trippett, business development director for Northern Nevada Development Authority, said after themeeting that AES Curb was the buyer.

AES Curb, headquartered in Tallassee, Ala., has plants in Whelling, W. Va., and Weatherford, Texas.

Yerington City Manager Dan Newell said he was told AES plans to start some operations within three weeks and plans to employ up to 40-50 people by the end of the first year, with more growth after that.

"We're excited to see something inside that building," Newell said. "That's good for the community....We're ticked to see somebody in there."

Poly One operated the plastics manufacturing plant in Wabuska in its finaly years, although the plant operated under various names and ownerships since it opened in the early 1980s.

The plant has been idle since closing in the summer of 2003.
