Great Basin College
Great Basin College is a member institution of the University and Community College System of Nevada and is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. For 35 years GBC has provided opportunities in higher education for central and northeast Nevadans. The College has also provided specialized training to local businesses and industries such as the mines, hospital, and education. GBC awards certificates of achievement, associate degrees, and select bachelor degrees using a variety of instructional methods. By advancing the academic and professional endeavors of the rural communities and by providing access to quality certificate, associate, and baccalaureate programs, GBC's mission of addressing workforce needs of the regional economy has been enhanced. Currently, the College offers bachelor degrees in elementary education, applied sciences, and integrative and professional studies.

Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course
This course was built on relatively hilly terrain and has wide-open fairways. Water does not come into play unless the sprinklers break. Every hole on the course has its own unique characteristics. A good round of golf can be experienced on this course.

Humboldt Historical Museum
Ideally situated overlooking the crossing on the Humboldt River where the town of Winnemucca originated, the Humboldt Museum is becoming a fully functional repository for historical data under one roof.

Buckaroo Hall of Fame
Memorabilia including traditional working gear, paintings, sculpture and drawings.

Black Rock Desert
This desert lies west and slightly north of Winnemucca in Humboldt and Pershing counties. Its historical importance lies in the Fremont, Applegate-Lassen and Nobles routes through the area.

Winnemucca Mountain
Named for Paiute Chief, Winnemucca, this mountain rises about 4,000 ft. above the valley floor making it the town's most prominent real estate. It was first prized for its treasures of gold, silver, and lead. The mountains greatest, most lasting gift is the annual spring show of wildflowers, the variety rivals anything in the sagebrush steppe, and many people wander along the roads in the springtime to enjoy this experience. Photographers take advantage of the 360-degree view from the top of the mountain for pictures of the Humboldt Black Rock Desert and the sand dunes.

Camping
Camping is available at Lye Creek, Rye Patch Reservoir, and Water Canyon.

Game and Bird Hunting
Some of the game include: Mule Deer, Elk, Antelope, Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Goat, Mountain Lion, and Rabbits. Some of the bird hunting include: Chukar, Blue Grouse, Quail, Pheasant, and Water Fowl.

Fishing
There are many streams and lakes in and around Humboldt County producing trout, bass, catfish, walleye, perch, crappie, wipers and more.

Hiking
The U.S. Forest Service has mapped out several hiking trails in the Santa Rosa Mountain range between Paradise and Orovada. Trails vary in length from one to ten miles at elevations of 4400 feet to 8200 feet. The best season for travel is June through October. These remote trails offer solitude, wildflowers, and wildlife.

Rock and Mineral Collecting
Recreational panning which does not involve mechanical equipment is permitted in wilderness and wilderness study areas if it does not create surface disturbances or impair the environment. Gemstones and common rock specimens may be collected for private use on unclaimed sites. Collecting of prehistoric tools and chips made of precious or semiprecious stones is not allowed.
