Carson-Tahoe Hospital*
Carson-Tahoe Hospital is a public not-for-profit community hospital that
began serving the Carson City health care needs in 1949. The hospital includes
Behavioral Health Services, an inpatient Psychiatric and Addictive Disorder
Center, Carson Rehabilitation Center and a satellite facility in Douglas
County; the Minden Medical Center. The hospital is located at 775 Fleischmann

scale for the uninsured. It is operated by Nevada Rural Health Centers Inc.
which also runs six other federally and locally funded rural clinics throughout

Sierra View Urgent Care*
Sierra View Urgent Care provides urgent and family care at what will be
the first exit off the Highway 395 Carson City bypass. The 3,400-square-foot
clinic has six doctors, laboratory and X-ray suites, several examining rooms
and a three-bed minor trauma room. It takes most insurances and Medicare.

Western Nevada College
Western Nevada College is a comprehensive community college which serves
more than 6,000 students each semester within an 18,000-square-mile service
area. It is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges
and Universities.
The college offers some 50 academic degrees and certificates in areas as diverse as engineering and construction technology, nursing, musical theatre, golf facilities management, geographic information systems, criminal justice and graphic design. Students may also complete up to two years of many baccalaureate degree programs, such as teacher preparation, for transfer to a university.
In response to industry needs, the college designs specialized training programs in machine tool, drafting, electronics, computing and other occupational areas. Customization often includes providing specialized instruction at the times and locations most convenient to employers, including on-site programs. Recent training programs conducted for area businesses have included welding certification, math, English, supervisory training, and computer applications.
University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)

Lake Tahoe Community College
Located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., offers the first two years of a four-year

small class sizes averaging 15 students per class and quality one-on-one
instruction. The college offers a good neighbor policy for Nevada residents
and tuition is only $28 a unit.
Brewery Arts Center
The Brewery Arts Center (BAC) is Carson City's local arts agency and community
arts center. Situated within the downtown district in a historic set of
rehabilitated buildings, formerly the Carson Brewing Company, the organization
offers more than 130 cultural events yearly in theater, music, vocal performance,
dance, literature and visual art.

Carson Trail and Talking Houses
The Kit Carson Trail is a walking path through Carson City's residential
homes district. A painted blue line and bronze medallions along the sidewalk
mark the route, which features stops at landmarks, including 1800s-era Victorian-style
homes, museums and churches.
The Capitol
Complex
The Capitol complex in the heart of Carson City provides a picturesque campus
setting which includes the State Capitol, Legislative Building, Supreme
Court, and State Library and Archives. What was once a dusty, sometimes
muddy, pit in the middle of a growing frontier town, is now lush with native
plant species and buildings of impressive architectural detail.

The Nevada State Museum was built in 1866 and was home to the U.S. Mint
for over 20 years. Inside its walls you'll experience a life-sized ghost
town, walk through a silver mine and see the actual equipment used to stamp
over 50 million dollars in gold and silver coins mined from the Comstock
Lode. It is now rated one of the 10 best regional museums in the West.

Railroad Museum
The Nevada State Railroad Museum is located at the south end of town next
to the Visitors' Center. It displays a collection of restored historic Virginia
and Truckee Railroad equipment. Rides on the railroad are offered on various
weekends in the summer.
Northern Nevada Children's Museum
Carson City's newest museum, the Northern Nevada Children's Museum, provides
a fun learning environment for children, with 25 hands-on exhibits, displayed
over approximately 8,000 square feet in Carson City's original 1939 Civic
Center. The kids will love their walk-in kaleidoscope.
Carson Nugget Gold
Display
The Carson Nugget's collection contains some of the rarest and finest specimens
of gold in its original form in the world. Its value is estimated at over
one million dollars.
Stewart Indian Museum
Displays artifacts, baskets, pottery, exhibits of American Indian history
and photographs by E.S. Curtis. Once the site of Stewart Indian School,
a national boarding school. Trading post offers gifts and collectibles including
rugs, silver jewelry and art.
Skiing & Snowsports
Traditionally balmy winter days afford visitors the option of hanging out
around town and seeing the sights, or whisking up to one of the lake's premier
resorts at the drop of a hat. Heavenly at Lake Tahoe's south shore is within
35 minutes, as is Mt. Rose to the north. Most skiing, including world class
cross-country skiing, is within 75 miles of downtown Carson City. All the
major resorts offer ski and snowboard rentals and lesson, as do a couple
of Carson City's shops.
Golf
The Carson area is host to the Divine 9, nine incredible courses that give
everyone from aspiring pros to hack amateurs a chance play courses with
challenging topography and a stunning Sierra backdrop. Great golf can be
had year round on courses designed by the likes of Arnold Palmer, Johnny
Miller, John Harbottle and Peter Jacobsen. With 61,000 yards of fairway
combining 171 holes, a golf vacation can go on forever without playing the
same hole twice!
Hiking & Biking
For cyclists, the granddaddy of all trails starts at Spooner Summit 12 miles
west of Carson City, and features a loop to Marlette Lake along Tahoe's
eastern ridge, down to the site of the Ponderosa near Incline Village. A
shuttle service is available back to the trailhead. But less renowned trails
are just minutes from downtown Carson City, and are often free from the
crowds of Tahoe's popular sites. The Pine Nut mountains just south of Carson
City offer miles of winding singletrack through rolling desert hills.
A four-mile beginner hiking and cycling route in East Carson City follows the former Virginia & Truckee Railroad line. Advanced riders and long-range hikers might choose the 13-mile McClellan Peak climb, which reaches and altitude of 7,465 feet before a decent back to the north Carson trailhead. The Carson River loop takes intermediate riders 10.5 miles along a scenic portion of Carson River. Hikers can opt to shorten that distance, and still enjoy the environment. The truly adventurous will brave the 15-mile Brunswick Canyon climb along old mining sites and encampments.
Local bike shops offer rentals and trail maps, and backcountry tours can also be arranged.
Hunting & Fishing
Hunting and fishing opportunities might be Northern Nevada's best kept secret.
Wildlife abounds around the foothills of the Eastern Sierra, as well as
the surrounding lakes and streams. Outdoorsmen come from all around the
world to fish for the elusive Cutthroat trout, or hunt for a chukar. Traditionally
mild weather makes it a year-round affair.
In the heart of Carson City, the Carson River contains an abundance of rainbow trout, carp, bass and whitefish. Clear Creek, which flows through southern Carson City from the Lake Tahoe Basin, offers small stream fishing. The Truckee River flows to the north, and the capital is in close proximity to Pyramid, Topaz, and Washoe lakes, as well as the locally famous Hobart Reservoir.
